Creative proposals for visualizing gastronomic data
Data science and artificial intelligence are transforming the gastronomy industry. In this post, we present innovative projects like Data Cuisine, World Food Map, and Food Maps, which use gastronomic data to create unique experiences and creative visualizations in the food sector. We show you how data can enhance the dining experience and improve food-related businesses.

In this Blogspot, we want to share some examples and resources for curious individuals interested in understanding more about the relationship between data, food, and gastronomy.
Data Cuisine: Making data edible
One of the most creative projects in this field is Data Cuisine, led by Moritz Stefaner and Susanne Jaschko. Through workshops, they seek to use food as a medium to communicate data. They work with local ingredients and culinary techniques, transforming data visualization into dishes that convey information through the color, texture, and origin of the ingredients. This innovative approach demonstrates how data science can be an artistic and sensory experience.
World Food Map: Global visualization of food preferences
A valuable resource for understanding gastronomic data is the World Food Map, an interactive map that shows the most consumed foods in different countries. This project, developed by the Global Diet Quality Project, collects information from 950 key informants worldwide. The data not only offers a global view of food preferences, but it is also used to improve diet quality according to the gastronomic culture of each region. It is a clear example of how interactive food maps can provide valuable and practical information.
Food Maps: Gastronomic exploration in the United States
If you’re in the United States and looking for a place to eat, Food maps by Fork + Plate can be a great tool. This resource organizes restaurant recommendations into thematic maps, offering everything from expert-suggested options to the best restaurants recommended by famous chefs.
Projects like Data Cuisine, the World Food Map, and Food Maps use data to offer new perspectives and experiences. Since late 2023, at Datasketch, we have been collaborating with restaurants, cafés, bars, and other food businesses to implement an AI and Data Science tool that we are developing with the support of Mastercard Strive. Our goal is to revolutionize the way these businesses can visualize and leverage gastronomic data to improve their operations and services.
